The Microsoft Technology Centre in Paris selects Avocent solution to manage its data centre and relocation

The Avocent MergePoint Infrastructure Explorer solution allows the Microsoft Technology Centre (MTC) Paris to administer and manage its entire data centre.

PARIS, June 24 2009 - Avocent Corporation (Nasdaq: AVCT), a leading provider of solutions for IT infrastructure, announces the successful deployment of its solution Avocent MergePoint Infrastructure Explorer in Microsoft Technology Centre, Paris for the administration of its data centre and support with in its physical removal.

MergePoint Infrastructure Explorer is a unique tool to administer, monitor heterogeneous solutions and to manage dynamic data centres. Moreover, this solution offers great flexibility to meet the needs of prototyping one customer to another. It is in line with best market practices for the administration of the data centres and is an accelerator of resettlement and reducing risk in the context of moving data centres.

"The Avocent tool allows us to effectively manage our entire data centre," said Bertrand Audras, MTC Architect ERM Paris. "It is thanks to Avocent that we can truly automate our processes and operation. Avocent offers us in effect to a tool to establish a protocol for implementation, ensuring a predefined level of quality and a constant in the software that we deploy. "

Nevertheless, the role of Avocent within this data centre has taken a new dimension when it chose to install its new headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in the inner suburbs of Paris. A new data centre should be up and running in Issy-les-Moulineaux on 1 July 2009. A data centre must deal with a number of physical elements (weight, area, volume, etc) To be effective, both in terms of performance, energy consumed, dissipated and scalability.

The Avocent MergePoint Infrastructure Explorer solution has naturally emerged as the ideal solution to accompany the MTC in Paris and the new data centre construction and planning of the move.

"With its functions for resource management, optimisation and planning, MergePoint Infrastructure Explorer has allowed us to map the future MTC," says Bertrand Audras. The new data centre has a configuration different from the former, because of the new physical location but also because the former was built in layers of technology and history. "On all these points, the Avocent product has greatly helped. We offered to rationalise the existing data centre and planned the future, keeping a comprehensive energy excellence, "said Bertrand Audras.

Avocent has been a partner of Microsoft since the first TCM, nearly 10 years ago and today worldwide, Avocent administers and benefits from their respective data centres.

"We are very pleased to have contributed to the successful installation of the new data centre MTC Paris and we are also proud that all MTC’s worldwide rely on Avocent's solutions to manage and maximise their respective data centres, "says Michel Daville, System Engineer at Avocent.

The Parisian MTC can also count on the active support teams of Avocent, support it has always allowed to be operational on a daily basis, and always available to customers of Microsoft.
