Intel Licenses Avocent DVC Technology
Embedded KVM over IP Functionality Enhances Remote Server Management
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 7, 2004 -- Avocent Corporation (Nasdaq: AVCT) the leading global provider of KVM switching and connectivity solutions, today announced Avocent’s DVC technology was licensed for use in the Intel® Server Management 8 which will be demonstrated this week at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CA.
Avocent's industry-proven DVC technology includes the Dambrackas Video CompressionÔ (DVC) algorithm. This proprietary and patent-pending technology enables high performance video redirection for remote server management over IP networks.
Avocent and Intel have worked together to integrate Avocent's remote console management technology into Intel's Server Management products. With the embedded DVC technology, small and medium-sized businesses will be able to manage remote offices and provide enterprise and government organisations with centralised remote console management.
“We are pleased that Intel chose to work with Avocent to provide this advanced server management capability,” said Avocent vice president of Embedded Solutions, Steve Daly. “The inclusion of our low cost, high performance DVC technology will help improve the reliability and service-ability of Intel platforms, freeing IT executives to focus on strategic business initiatives.”
“Our license to Intel is a significant step towards our goal of enabling servers and workstations to offer built-in KVM-over-IP functionality," added Bill Dambrackas, Avocent senior vice president of Advanced Technology and the inventor of the Avocent DVC technology.
“The Avocent DVC technology enables Intel to provide server products to our customers with a seamless single management offering. It provides another level to the Intel® Server Management 8 suite of products to address various customer needs,” said Tom Matson, Marketing Director for the Enterprise Products and Services Division. “Beginning in September, Intel plans to offer Intel Server Management 8 that will provide both hardware and software management innovations across multiple server products. One of the products is the Intel® Management Module – Advanced Edition that uses the Avocent technology to provide integrated KVM over IP.”
