DSR8035 KVM Switch
KVM over IP switch with BIOS-level control of all connected servers and serial-based devices in your data centre – scalable for future growth.
The 32-port DSR®8035 KVM over IP switch provides eight simultaneous digital paths for remote access and BIOS-level control of all connected servers and serial-based devices in your data centre. You can remotely power cycle connected devices and you have external modem support when the network is down.
The DSR8035 switch features an on-board Web interface compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Firefox for access and control of your servers over IP. This is beneficial to companies that want an easily scalable system.
DSR KVM over IP switches are IPv6 network compatible. Virtual Media lets you remotely load software for file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostic testing.
DSView® 3 management software can be added as your system grows. It’s a powerful centralised management tool that lets you access and control your servers and network devices from a single interface. Its hub and spoke architecture provides failover authentication. Users authenticate to a central management server (the hub) or one of 15 mirror servers (the spokes). SNMP and IPMI support are also provided.
Using the DSView® 3 management software tomanage the DSR8030 switch adds the benefit of Virtual Media. This lets you remotely load software for file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostic testing.

FAQs
Question | Answer |
| Equipment |
| I have computers at multiple sites. How do I use the Avocent DSR switch to provide access? | The DSR switch can be deployed wherever computers or servers are located. It connects to your network. Your technicians and administrators can access the attached devices directly from their desk. |
| Can the DSR switch provide access to other devices? | The DS Series has a wide variety of connection adaptors. Use the VT100 serial adaptor to access routers, DSU or other networking devices. |
| How do I get access if my network connection to a site is down? | The DSR switch has a port that can be connected to a modem. This provides access to the site when the IP connection is not working. By connecting the router or DSU to the DSR switch, you can diagnose WAN or server problems. |
| Do I need to order a rack mount kit separately or does it ship with the appliance? | A rack mount kit is shipped with the appliance for easy installation. |
| Operation |
| I use remote control software to manage my remote locations. How is this different? | The DSR switch connects to the keyboard, video and mouse port of the computer. Unlike remote control software, the DS Series products do not require a functioning operating system, network stack, or application to be running to access the computer. By connecting externally, a CTRL-ALT-DEL command can be sent to reboot the computer. During the boot up, the BIOS can be accessed or the boot can be single stepped in order to troubleshoot boot problems. Remote control software cannot give boot level access. |
| Sometimes I need to cycle power to a device to reset it. How do I cycle power remotely? | The DSR8035 switch has a power control port built into the appliance. By connecting this port to an Avocent SPC power control device, you can remotely check power starts and cycle power. This means no more calling someone at the location to explain which power switch they need to cycle. |
| How do the dual network interfaces function? | The dual network interfaces act together to provide failover protection. Only one interface will be active at a time; however, should the active interface lose network connectivity, the other interface will take over to maintain network availability to the DSR appliance. The appliance has the same IP address regardless of which network interface is active. |
| Performance |
| Depending on my site, my link speeds can be different. How does the DSR switch handle different speeds? | The DSR switch uses the Avocent Dambrackas Video Compression® (DVC) algorithm. It provides selections to reduce the number of colors, including a gray scale selection, to operate over a variety of link speeds including speeds of a dial modem. |
